A very global company
Apple products are designed in Silicon Valley, California, made in China, by Foxconn, a Taiwan based company and sold all over the world, particularly to the developed countries. A market has been made in many different countries due to a distinct advertising campaign which has generated many customers devoted to buying apple products. All of this has only been made possible by improved communications, transport, knowledge diffusion and the movement of people and capital.
The products are made in China due to the workers there being cheaper than American workers would be. This is a good thing in many ways to China as it provides some investment into the country and generates jobs. However, In 2006 it was reported that 200,000 workers who lived and worked in Shenzen factory were regularly working more than 60 hours a week for only around $100 a month, half of which was taken up by living expenses. In addition to this, some workers decided to sue Apple after complaining about being poisoned by a cleaner used to clean LCD screens.
This shows that the globalisation of the company Apple is not solely a positive or negative thing. There are many different factors which come into play and have to be balanced up in order for an individual to form their own opinion.
